What Is Digital Marketing?

Have you ever heard about online marketing, internet marketing, or web marketing? And what are they all? They all are known as Digital Marketing.

Basically, digital marketing is the component of marketing that utilizes the internet and online-based digital technologies such as desktop computers, mobile phones, and other digital media and platforms to promote products and services.

Modules in Digital Marketing

Digital Marketing is a combined effort of the various modules.

Let us understand the various modules in digital marketing.

1. Content Marketing

Content Marketing is one of the digital marketing modules which is done by businesses and personal brands creating valuable content. After creating content that content is going to grab the attention of customers and audiences and then drive the traffic towards the websites or products. Then this traffic is going to help businesses and personal brands to generate more profit by selling their products, services, and packages.

2. Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing is the use of social media platforms and websites to promote a product or service such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter, and other social media platforms.

In social media marketing, you have to use content to promote on social media platforms so you can drive traffic towards your products.

3. Email Marketing

The use of email to promote your product and reaching out to your customer is email marketing. Email marketing is when you send a commercial email message to your email subscribers, contacts who have signed up to your email list, and given express permission to receive email communications from you.

Email marketing is used to inform, drive sales, and build a community around your brand (e.g. with a newsletter).

4. Social Media Advertising

Advertisement of your brand on various social media is known as social media advertising.

You can use advertising platforms provided by Google, Twitter, and Facebook ads for targeting and presenting ads.

Running successful social media ads has become a crucial component to succeed as a digital marketer. Many digital marketers have failed to recognize this change and adapt to it and it has cost them, robbing many of their readers, customers, and the shares from them. This opens up the path to learn and master social media advertising.

5. Search Engine Optimization

The practice of increasing the quantity and quality of traffic to your website or blog through organic search engine results is to know as search engine optimization.

Search Engine Optimization, popularly known as SEO is the most sought after and the most difficult skill to master. Google is tweaking its ranking algorithm 200 times a year which keeps the practitioners on their toes as the tactics that worked before could become useless at the instant Google pushes an update.

When you write your blog post, you would’ve done keyword research to pick the right keyword to focus on and competitor research to know what kind of content your competitors have published. Those two steps are the starting of a good SEO process.

6. Search Engine Marketing

“Search Engine Marketing” refers to paid search marketing, a system where businesses pay Google to show their ads in the search results.

If you really want to excel as a digital marketer, you cannot just rely on organic traffic. As it might take a while to receive the organic traffic to your website, new blog posts, or product you can leverage Google Adwords to gain instant traction.

7. Web Analytics

You need to know about your website users — where do they come from, what do they consume, where do they leave, how much time they spend and what actions they take, and analytics tools as Google help you with it. Mastering such analytics tools is important as a digital marketer to improve your game by creating and publishing more user-friendly products and blog posts. Every good digital marketer will be a pro analytics user.

Integrated Digital Marketing

By now, you would’ve realized that becoming a successful digital marketer is not luck-dependent. It depends on how well you’re using the marketing channels and tactics together to achieve the best results. Using two or more marketing modules and tactics to achieve results is termed integrated digital marketing.

In integrated digital marketing all components of digital marketing complement each other.

How Integrated Digital Marketing Work?

You can see that in the integrated digital marketing process flow (above image), content marketing sits at the center. An email list can drive traffic to your content and content can help you to build your email list. Then you have a search engine that can switch drive traffic to your content and because you have quality content, the search engine drives traffic to you. And similarly, social media will help with your content and vice versa. Finally paid ads can boost your entire digital marketing strategy. You can both drive traffic from paid ads and build your email list directly or you can use paid ads to boost your content. Once all this is done this integrated digital marketing helps you to drive sales.
